IV Sedation

IV Sedation

Dental anxiety is common and affects people of all ages. There are different levels of dental anxiety, ranging from slight nervousness to a severe phobia.

Dental anxiety affects people in different ways. You may be anxious about specific aspects of dental treatment or you may have had unpleasant experiences at the dentist as a child and are frightened that these will be repeated. We provide intravenous conscious sedation for patients with severe dental anxiety.
Sedation dentistry is not for everyone. In fact, many of our patients with some dental anxiety find they don’t need sedation in our practice. These patients often tell us that our caring, gentle approach provides them with a relaxing, pleasant experience even without sedation. But if you find the thought of your treatment is just too much then the choice is yours.

Advantages of IV Sedation

IV sedation is an excellent method of treatment for patients who have any of the following concerns:

  • Severe dental anxiety
  • Difficulty getting numb
  • Traumatic dental experiences in the past
  • Patients receiving complex treatments or surgery
  • Patients who have jaw joint troubles and cannot open their mouth for extended periods
  • Anyone who is afraid of needles in the mouth

Our sedation service is available to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible during your treatment with us. When sedated you will be conscious, but unaware of what is going on around you. It is our aim that once the IV sedation treatment is done, we will try to rehabilitate you into having your treatment done without IV sedation. This is done by regular contact and a maintenance programme that will improve your confidence for the future.
