      What Are Dental Filling?

Dental fillings are a common dental procedure used to repair cavities (holes in your teeth) or other damage like chipped teeth. They help prevent further decay and restore the functionality of your teeth. Early detection is key, as cavities worsen over time, increasing the likelihood of needing more extensive treatment later. Regular dental check-ups are crucial for catching cavities early.

      Different Types Of Filling

Traditional silver-coloured amalgam fillings offer strong durability, making them ideal for back teeth. For a more natural appearance, tooth-coloured composite fillings are preferred for visible teeth. More extensive damage may necessitate inlays and overlays, which provide additional support for larger cavities or damaged chewing surfaces. Lastly, temporary fillings offer a short-term solution while a permanent filling is prepared.

      Consultation

Your dentist will discuss your concerns and examine your teeth.

      Numbing

Local anaesthesia may be used to numb the area around the tooth

      Preparation

Decayed or damaged tooth structure is removed.

      Filling

The cavity is filled with the chosen material and hardened.

Why do you need a filling?

      Tooth decay:

Caused by bacteria feeding on sugars and starches, leading to enamel erosion and cavities.

      Chipping:

Injuries, accidents, or eating hard foods can chip or break teeth.

      Abrasion and attrition:

Aggressive brushing or teeth grinding can wear down teeth.

I decided to move from nhs to private treatment as I had a very bad experience where the dentist could not remove my tooth. Dr Feridah has been excellent and really helped calm my nerves. Dr Fereeba did an amazing job and seemed to remove the tooth with ease. All the staff go above and beyond and I would highly recommend this practice.

Started my journey with Manor House dental interested in invisalign. I was swiftly booked by Jaz to have a consultation with Dr Farideh and the rest became history. Fast forward a few months and many regular check ups I have finally been able to CONFIDENTLY smile again. The whole process is guided with expert care and regular milestones are established to ensure treatment is on track. Could not be more impressed or recommending of their services. I was so happy with their care I opted to also have bonding done with them too! Honestly could not fault the team one bit, a big thank you to you all for allowing me to reclaim a smile I can show off to the world!!

10/10 dental surgery. I’ve been having treatment for around 8-9 months, braces, dental bonding which basically involved dentist totally rebuilding my teeth by hand - a smile makeover for my very damaged misaligned teeth. From my first appointment I was very happy - Dr Arshad is a total professional and incredibly good at what she does, I’m also very anxious and she is so friendly she puts me at ease every time. Her assistant (apologies I can’t remember his name, possibly Amar? Or Amir? Is also fab, they really do work very hard. All the other staff are lovely, Jas & Roobee are so welcoming and accommodating, after all this time I feel at home when I visit. I come from the other side of the city, and I’ll always be a patient. Thanks so much Manor House dental 🙏

Can't fault the surgery In anyway. The front desk, dentist and hygienist are all so lovely and professional, this is coming from someone who has a bit of a fear of dentists and I wouldn't go anywhere else! Highly recommend.

      Dental Fillings FAQ
On average, you can expect your filling to last up to 15 years before needing to be replaced. However, this is dependent on factors such as your oral hygiene practices and whether you grind or clamp your teeth. The location in your mouth and the size of your filling can also affect how long your treatment will last.
Composite fillings are the most popular option. They are discreet due to the tooth-coloured materials available. However, they may not be as durable as other filling materials. The best dental filling for you will be dependent on your situation. We recommend booking an appointment with your dentist and they can advise you on the best course of treatment to take.
Tooth fillings should not be painful. If you require anaesthesia you may experience some discomfort from the needle but that should be it. Our dentists are highly trained and experienced in all aspects of dental fillings. They are also experts in dealing with nervous patients. If you are worried about experiencing any pain during your dental filling treatment, talk to your dentist and we can help you become more comfortable.
There are several different reasons a filling can fall out. It could be due to eating certain foods, crunching or grinding your teeth or further decay forming around the filling. If your filling does fall out due to decay, we may need to consider removing the tooth and considering a more permanent restoration such as dental implants.
They can be used to fill cavities and chips. They can also be used to protect against enamel damage and discolouration.
Fillings should not cause any increased sensitivity in your teeth. If you do experience this, you should contact your dentist.
Yes, you can eat and drink immediately after your treatment.
There is no limit to the amount of times your fillings can be replaced. However, if the hole becomes too large, we may have to consider extracting the tooth.
You should avoid any hard or sticky foods for two weeks after your treatment.
