Clear Braces
Invisible braces are a great teeth straightening treatment for patients who are self-conscious about the appearance of a brace on their teeth. Clear braces are highly popular among teenagers and young adults. For clear braces, brackets are made of tooth-coloured or clear ceramic. This helps the brackets to blend in with your natural teeth, minimising the braces appearance and noticeability. If you are concerned about the appearance of your smile during your teeth straightening treatment, we also offer six-month smile aligners and Invisalign treatments.
Clear Braces
Clear braces can be used to fixed smiles suffering from:
- Overcrowded teeth
- Crooked teeth
- Too much space between teeth
- Overlapping teeth
- Over-bite
- Under-bite
- Other jaw misalignment problems that cause an uneven bite
Clear Braces Procedure
To begin your clear braces treatment, you should book an appointment with your dentist. Your treatment will start with an oral exam. Here your dentist can conduct a full inspection of your jaw, mouth and teeth. Here your dentist will decide if clear braces are a suitable treatment option for you and explain how the treatment will work. They may also be able to give you an estimated treatment time depending on the severity of your misalignment.
Once you have decided to go ahead with the treatment, your dentist will take a series of X-rays to determine your current teeth position as well as a plaster model of your teeth. You will bite into a soft material that will remain on your teeth for a few seconds. This impression will then be used to make a plaster model of your teeth so that your dentist can evaluate your bite.
If there is any overcrowding of teeth present that is affecting the alignment of your smile, these teeth will be extracted before your braces are fitted. Sometimes tooth extraction may be advised to make your aligned smile more comfortable or to allow for adequate space for cleaning. You may also decide to book a routine hygiene appointment to ensure your teeth are in the best condition they can be prior to treatment.
The preparation for braces can often be the most stressful part of treatment, especially for nervous patients. Here at Manor House Dental, our dentist are highly trained and experienced in all aspects of teeth straightening treatments and are excellent at dealing with nervous/anxious patients. We take the time to listen to your concerns and do the best we can to accomodate your needs.
Once your teeth have been prepared, your clear braces will then be fitted. Your dentist will fit the clear brackets to each of your teeth and then fit the wire. You will need to get the thickness and tightness of your wire adjusted every 4-6 weeks, depending on individual treatment requirements.
Clear Braces Treatment Time
On average clear braces usually take around 16-18 months to fully correct a smile. However, treatment can take up to 24 months and sometimes longer depending on the severity of the misalignment. Closing gaps in the teeth or correcting a patients bite can often add to treatment time.
