How to Keep Your Teeth White After Professional Teeth Whitening

By Dr Anika Arshad – GDC Number: 80199

One of the questions I’m asked most after teeth whitening is, “How do I keep my teeth white for as long as possible?”

The first 48 hours after whitening are the most important. During this time, I recommend avoiding foods and drinks that can stain your teeth, such as coffee, tea, red wine, curry and berries, as your teeth are more susceptible to absorbing colour.

After that, maintaining good oral hygiene will make the biggest difference. Brushing twice a day, cleaning between your teeth and attending regular hygiene appointments will help keep surface stains to a minimum.

Smoking is another common cause of tooth discolouration, so reducing or avoiding tobacco products can help your whitening results last much longer.

It’s also important to remember that whitening isn’t permanent. Depending on your lifestyle and diet, many patients choose a simple top-up treatment every 12 to 24 months to keep their smile looking its best.

With the right aftercare and regular dental visits, professional teeth whitening can provide long-lasting, natural-looking results while keeping your smile healthy and bright.
